Privacy policy
Your data, in plain words
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to work: your name, email, workouts and settings.
- Your workouts are visible to people in your squads and nobody else.
- We don't show ads, we don't sell your data and we don't use third-party trackers.
- You can download or delete your data at any time.
Who we are
Train Rivals is made by Rook and Relay LLC, a Massachusetts company ("we", "us"), 82 Wendell Ave., Ste 100, Pittsfield, MA 01201, USA. This policy covers the Train Rivals app for iPhone and Android and this website, trainrivals.com.

We don't collect your location, contacts, photo library or health data from other apps, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we use it
- To provide the app: save workouts, sync between devices and show your progress.
- To run squad features: leaderboards, rivals, challenges, season ranks and the squad feed.
- To keep accounts safe and prevent abuse.
- To answer you when you contact support.
- To send service emails, such as sign-in emails or changes to these policies. We don't send marketing email unless you opt in.
Where the law asks for a legal basis (for example in the UK and EU), we rely on providing the service you asked for, our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and working, and your consent for anything optional.
Who can see it
Your squad sees your display name, workouts, personal records, XP, season rank and strength level. They don't see your email address or bodyweight.
Nobody outside your squads can see your workouts. Train Rivals has no public profiles.
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We only disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Train Rivals, in which case this policy would still apply to your data.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted companies to run Train Rivals, such as cloud hosting and database providers, an email delivery service and an error monitoring service. They process your data only on our instructions, only to provide their service to us, and they're required to keep it secure and confidential. If you'd like to know who they are, email us and we'll tell you.
Your data is stored in the United States. If you use Train Rivals from outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the US, and we use the safeguards the law requires for that transfer.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, your data is deleted straight away and removed from backups within 30 days. Technical logs are deleted after 30 days. Reports you send about another person or a post, and a copy of what was reported, are kept for up to a year after we have dealt with them, then deleted. You disappear from your squads' leaderboards and feeds. If you made a custom exercise that a squad mate has logged, the exercise stays so their history keeps working, but it no longer shows your name.
Your choices and rights
- See and download your data. Email us and we'll send you a copy of your workouts in a common format.
- Correct your name, email, units and workouts in the app.
- Delete your account from Me in the app, or by emailing us.
- Leave any squad at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as objecting to processing or complaining to your data protection authority. We'll respond to any request within 30 days and won't treat you differently for making one.
Security
We protect your account with secure sign-in, and your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach ever affects your data, we'll tell you promptly.
Children
Train Rivals is not for children under 13, or under 16 in the UK and EU. We don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
